There is no way to eliminate or control nature. These behaviors exist for a natural purpose. Remember, we have our birds living in unnatural conditions. It is what it is but, we can surely influence it.

This time of year will likely show an increase in energy, more beakiness, greater territorial behaviors and more vocal behaviors. The degree of these behaviors can vary greatly from bird to bird and year to year. Be aware!

Make sure you are providing a healthy, balanced, low energy diet - NO warm, mushy foods. Increase their sleep time. Provide good exercise opportunities. Be VERY aware how you are touching and handling your bird - not too much cuddling, avoid petting their backs, etc. Don’t let them into dark corners, closets and such.

We have products that will help “take the edge off” of this behavior - Avian Calm and Calming Tea. In my experience, sometimes one will work over the other with an individual bird one season, but it may be different the next. I have also had to use both sometimes. I recommend keeping notes on the results for each of your birds that use these products. You may need to experiment some as there are no miracle cures - just good practices, observation, patience and tolerance.
