Taffy Toucan Powder™ (8oz.) is designed to help inhibit iron absorption. It is SPECIALLY formulated with toucans in mind who are well known for this health concern.
Ingredients: A proprietary mix of toucan appropriate fruits, flowers and naturally caffeine free tea. Tannin rich and high in Polyphenols - the iron inhibitors!

The BACK STORY: This item came about because I was involved with a feisty Toucan named Taffy. I was studying the toucan diet. Toucans have a relatively short digestive tract and a propensity for developing iron storage disease. Many are not living as long as they should be.
Their diet should be primarily tropical fruits.Leafy greens should be avoided as they contain too much iron. Items high in vitamin C should be avoided as they increase the absorption of iron.
I became troubled that many fruits fed to toucans are either relatively high in iron or vitamin C. I decided to take a different approach. If some items can increase iron absorption, what items would inhibit it? From there, what of those items are OK for toucans to have? THAT is how I came to develop this mix.

It is natural to have some amount of crumbs or smaller pieces at the bottom of wherever you are storing our freeze-dried products. This is due to its brittle nature. It should not be wasted. Be sure to use any tiny crumbs that you may have. The nutrition is still there. You can sprinkle this on any of their other foods or feed to your little canaries and finches.
